Relaxing Day

Today was kind of a down day. We had stuff we wanted to do, but no real adjenda. FlowerWe started out by heading down to the same place we were previously by clayton falls. When we got down there, our seal friends were not out soaking in the sun like last time, but there was a group of eyes bobbing in the water following Sue and my every move. We hiked down the trail a little bit and I left my camera in the Jeep, thinking I would just check things out first before lugging the heavy stuff around. Of course, I get down there and there are three bald eales out on a cropping. I run back to the car and by the time I get back and they are all gone. Drat!! We decide it may be more fun to do some geocaching down at the harbor. What better way to check out a place and see where people want you to be. This time we would take out time and really check this place out. It's very scenic down there. Things are old and kind of run down, but is there a marina anywhere that can't lay claim to these words. ScenicWe spent a couple hours down along the waters edge, looking for caches, taking photos and taking in the scenery. It was a fun day. There were lots of bald eagles flying about, some even posing for photos.

When we got done down at the harbor, we headed back to the lodge for lunch and some rest. Afterwards we decided to go explore some more. We ended up at the Sallompt Forest Trails. The drive over to them had some nice views, especially the bridge that crossed the Bella Coola River. By the time we got to the trails, it was getting late, but the trail brochure said it should only take 45 - 60 minutes to walk these trails, so we did it. A portion of the trails go along the Bella Coola River. It was very nice there. One thing that was really great was this park had little kiosks explaining the plants and trees along the way.

GPSEvening Hike
We had wondered about a lot of what we were seeing on this trip, and now we finally had the chance to read and find out what we were actually looking at. Everything is so different all over the world, I love learning of the native species. It was almost dark when we got back to the car, so we just drove straight home and had some leftovers for dinner. We had to get to bed early because tomorrow was river drift tour #2, but this would be a morning run, so we had to get up early. The tour included a breakfast, so breakfast at 7am followed by hitting the river. There was no way I would have ever predicted what a great bear watching day this would be.
