2006 we sailed the beautiful Islands of Croatia

After landing in Athens we made way to the Marina. After checking our boat, we had dinner and got to meet our guide and other flotilla members. We were briefed on our general sailing plan. The next day we sailed! Winds were in our favor, and we said to Aegina and climbed up to the Temple of Aplaia. After, we continued sailing to Poros.

Waking up in Poros, we set sail for Hydra. On the way we stopped at Spathi for lunch and a swim. Later on Hydra, we dressed as pirates for some fun with the gang.

We spent the day on Hydra. What a beautiful island it is. By the end of the trip, this would turn out to be my favorite island that we visited. Later in the day we sailed to a remote island (no inhabitants) and had a cookout on the top of a hillside. Lots of relaxing, eating, drinking and laughs.

Sailed from the remote island to Milos today, to dine under the cliffs at Kleftiko. We weren't paying close enough attention at the mornings briefing, had we a bit a bit of a panic today, as we weren't exactly sure where to go, but in the end we found our way to join the others at the beautiful cliffs.

Today we awoke and explored the cliffs and caves at Kleftiko. What a gorgeous place. After a day of fun, we sailed around the island of Milos to Adamas Port, to spend the night.

Waking up in Miles, we set sail for Ios in the morning. Nice sail to Ios and then we hit the night life in town. (or we made the night life in town - I think, since dam near everyone in the bar was with us)

Today we took a ferry from Ios out to Santorini where we would spend a couple nights in the Villa. Oh my God - for an errupted volcano, this has got to be one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Spent the day playing around on Santorini. Rented a car and did some exploring. This island is every bit as beautiful as advertised. We made it to both the black sand beach and the red sand beach.

Today we got back on the boat. We sailed from Ios to Tangania and then to Paros

Today was spent on Paros. Sue and I choose to go see the "Valleyof the Butterflies". This is a place where every summer, the Jersey Tiger Moths migrate to. The area fills with them. We drove around and enjoyed other beautiful scenes on this island. The town was beautiful. Due to bad weather, we were unable to continue to Mykonos, so we stayed the night here and celebrated Mike's birthday.

So we skipped Mykonos because of severe winds. Well those winds continued to churn the sea as you can see by Nancy's face as we finally made it to the island of Siros. We had no real plans for this island, so we hung at the port and played around.

This morning we sailed to Kea. The winds had died down, so the sail was smooth. Once at Kea, the plan for the day was to hike up the hillside to a Stone Lion that is believed to have been carved around 600 BC. That would make it around 2,606 years old - dam that's old. We hung around and watched the sunset before returning to the boat.

Today would be our last day of sailing in the Aegean Sea. Today we awoke in Kea and sailed to Cape Sounion where up above us we could see the Temple of Poseidon. it was here that we also had our last swim in the sea. A nice slow paced relaxing day, to reflect on the amazing 2 weeks it has been on the sea. Later that night we got together for a farewell dinner.

Today we awoke one last time on our boat and prepared it for it's return to the marina. After lots of inspections and paperwork, the rest of the day was for exploring the beautiful ruins of Athens. Afterwards we had dinner in a skytop restaurant. One last time to say goodbye to our sailing friends. The view of Athens from up here at night was spectacular.

We had a free day today, so Sue and I rented a car and drove into Bosnia for lunch. Yeah yeah, but why not? If you can ignore the bullet holes on the buildings, it's actually a beautiful country

Another day of sight-seeing in Split, but at the end of the day we went out to the marina and got on our sailboat. This will be our transportation and hotel for the next two weeks. Tomorrow we hit the seas!

Today was our first day sailing the boat. We started in the marina near Split and sailed for 3+ hours to a remote quiet cover where we bed down for the night. Dinner was on the boat. Tomorrow we set out for a longer sail

Today we sailed from the city of Primosten up river (from salt to brackish to fresh water) to the Skradinskin Waterfalls. They were beautiful. There was a grist mill there we toured and many boardwalk trails to enjoy the beauty of the falls.

Nice Long day on the boat today. We sailed around the rest of the island we were on Otok Kornat and continued back the way we came in the day before. Of course there was a stop to swim and eat lunch along the way. Then we continued to the island of Otok Zirje. Very scenic island and the waters here were beautiful in bright shades of blue and green.

Today was a nice simple 4+ hour sail from the city of Trogir to Stari Grad. We got there and did some sight-seeing of the city. The sunset from here was amazing tonight

We started our day on Stari Grad and sailed over to a peninsula that is found off the island of Brac that is a sort of recreation area. It has beaches and lots of fun activities like rafting, tubing, parasailing, etc. We stop here for lunch and took a swim before continuing on to the city of Hvar

We started our day in Hvar. A little more sight-seeing in the morning of the beautiful city before setting sails and heading in an almost straight line in a southeasterly direction to the city of Korcula. Another day of beautiful weather and sailing

Today we left Korcula and had a wonderful day of sailing. The winds were great and the sailing was prefect. Out final destination was Polace. One of the other boats had a line tangled up during their sail, and when we final all got to port, Mike volunteered to climb up and untangle things. After some drinks and relaxing, we sat down to some dinner. It was a good day.

Short sail today than yesterday, but winds were blowing good again. We were able to sail from Polace all the way over to Sipanska Luka in four hours. It's great when we can raise the sails.

Nice Sail today. We started in Sipansk Luka and worked our way along the southern side of the island range towards Dubrovnik. We stopped along the war for lunch at a popular 'hangout' place where other boats were lounging. From there we continued on to Dubrovnik and got the sea-side view of the beautiful fortress city. From there we continued southeasterly to our destination city of Cavtat. There we had a farewell dinner for the full flotilla to say goodbye to our sailing friends.

This was our last sail in Croatia. It was a very short sail from the city of Cavtat over to the marina where we had to return out boat. It was nice to pass Dubrovnik one more time. The next few days we will explore this city from the inside.

The rest of our trip (3 days) was spent hang and exploring the city of Dubrovnik. We spent the days walking around and hitting all the sight there was to see. This city has much beauty. It's hard to believe such a place was built by man. I'd like to see the plans for this city. Wonder what it looked like when the first stone was laid.
